Vickie L. James, RD/LD

Vickie James is the creator, and national director of Healthy Kids Challenge, a school/community based approach for childrens’ health, originated in 1998 by Cooking Light magazine.  HKC focuses on increasing opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity for children in an effort to make healthy living a habit. Healthy Kids Challenge was the 2003-04 American Dietetics Association Anita Owen Award Recipient for Most Innovative Educational Program.  Her program works with national organizations and corporations across the country such as CIGNA Healthcare, Aramark School Foodservice Division, Mission Foods, Cabot Creamery, Field Trip Factory, and The Association of Junior Leagues. Vickie is also a consultant here at home for the Kansas Health Foundation, serving as a content expert for their nutrition and physical activity community initiatives. 

Vickie has been the Recognized Young Dietitian and the Distinguished Dietitian for Kansas; the KSU 2001 Alumni Fellow for the College of Human Ecology, and the 2003 KSU Alumni Entrepreneur Award recipient. She was honored in 2003-04 by the ADA Foundation by receiving the Award for Excellence in Community Dietetics. Vickie volunteers her time serving her alma mater in various capacities including serving on the University Alumni Board, the College Alumni Board and mentoring KSU dietetics students.  Her most recent accomplishment is developing a course for seniors in dietetics at Kansas State called Communication Competencies in Dietetics Practice. In her spare time, Vickie enjoys cooking, taking walks and enjoying time with friends and family.
